About "The Reconnection"
“The Reconnection”
This piece shows a sacred dream state in which the spirit is speaking with someone they lost. The strawberries represent spiritual healing in the Anishinaabe beliefs and are used in ceremony and appreciated as gifts from the creator that are good for our hearts and soul.
The green energy beams through to provide this reconnection between this world and the spirit world. The orange background represents all the spirits who have been sent to the other side and are victims of a corrupt and evil system of oppression.
The sacred white hummingbirds are the keepers of the reconnection dream and watch over to protect the space from negativity.
The Reconnection piece is a sacred realm of forgiveness, peace, and the continuity of culture, language, and grandmother energy whose love exists beyond all barriers
Brandon Jacko is an Ojibway artist from Wikwemikong, Manitoulin Island, Ontario. He struggled with his Indigenous ancestry as a child and was often bullied by other children and teachers for being Indigenous. During this time, others noticed his ability to draw and he received a scholarship to the Avenue road Art School in Toronto, Ontario. He continued to practise his art skills throughout his life and began painting professionally in 2018.
Brandon received a favourable response to his work and began to devote his work ethic to practising art in the Woodlands style of First Nations art. Inspired by Norval Morrisseau, Russell Noganosh, and Daphne Odjig, Brandon is able to express his imagination and connect with his Indigenous ancestry through his art. Brandon signs his work with a bear claw to represent his spiritual Clan. You can see more of his artwork at www.bjackoart.com or on instagram @bjackoart. He also offers various merchandise on his Etsy shop, OjibwayArtist.
