Wear Orange on September 30th and Support Anishnawbe Health

Our friends at Old's Cool General Store are once again supporting Anishnawbe Health Foundation (AHF) by selling Orange Shirt Day T-shirts for the fifth year in a row. The t-shirts are designed by Ojibwe artist Roxanne Thibault and this year’s theme is “Hope and Healing.” Each bead in the beadwork design represents a child who went to Residential School.

Shirts are $25+HST with a portion of all t-shirt sales donated to AHF. To order a shirt, visit the store at 250 Westlake Ave, place your order online at oldscoolgeneralstore.square.site/s/shop or email oldscoolgeneralstore@gmail.com. Today is International Overdose Awareness Day

August 31st is dedicated to raising awareness about the devastating impact of the ongoing opioid poisoning nation-wide and to helping reduce stigma and discrimination against people who use drugs.

The fentanyl overdose crisis continues to disproportionately affect the Indigenous community. At Anishnawbe Health Toronto, the Rapid Access Addiction Medicine program (RAAM) is critical to the care of Indigenous people who are reliant on contaminated street drugs and those who are alcohol dependent. The program has a multidisciplinary team of addiction counsellors, social and outreach workers, nurses, physicians, group facilitators, and traditional healers to support clients. In the past year after a significant increase in demand for the program during the pandemic, a first of its kind Mobile RAAM unit was added to see clients in the community. Community members are assured of a no barrier service.

Calling all Sweetgrass Monthly Giving Circle Donors

We appreciate your monthly gift, and in the spirit of reciprocity we invite our monthly donors to participate in the Sweetgrass Reading Circle, an event exclusive to our community of monthly gift givers.

The Sweetgrass Reading Circle is a free, quarterly gathering dedicated to discussing the thematic elements of books by Indigenous authors to foster learning and understanding of Indigenous resilience, cultures, and ultimately, truth and reconciliation.

Our next Circle meets September 27th from 12-1 p.m. and our book pick this quarter is Unreconciled: Family, Truth, and Indigenous Resistance by Jesse Wente. Unreconciled untangles the lies and myths between Indigenous and settler people, with intent to build new and healthier relations moving forwards.

Monthly donors can register HERE

Interested in this event but not a monthly donor? Become a member of the Sweetgrass Circle HERE or contact jmanning@aht.ca for more information.
