Embracing the Winter Solstice: A Time for Reflection, Renewal, and Reconciliation

At Anishnawbe Health Foundation, reconciliation is at the heart of our mission. It calls on each of us to actively engage in a healing process, whether through supporting Indigenous-led health and wellness initiatives, amplifying Indigenous voices, or educating ourselves and others on the impacts of colonization.

As we reflect on the past, we also look to the future, with the Winter Solstice in only two days and a new year just around the corner, now is the time to consider your own reconciliation journey.

Ask yourself:
  • What steps have I taken to better understand the histories and cultures of Indigenous peoples?

  • What new commitments can I make in the coming year to advance reconciliation?

  • How have I shared the knowledge I’ve gained about reconciliation with others?

Reconciliation is a process that requires continuous learning, unlearning, and, above all, commitment. By taking part in this process, we create a foundation for healing, not just for Indigenous peoples, but for all Canadians.

We are grateful for your continued support as we walk this path together. May this Solstice season bring you peace, reflection, and renewal, and may we enter the new year with a renewed commitment to reconciliation!

Important Update: Canada Post Strike and Donation Mailings

While the Canada Post strike has ended, there are still significant delays in mail delivery as they work through the backlog. If you’re planning to send your donation to Anishnawbe Health Foundation by mail, we encourage you to consider using an alternative courier service to ensure your contribution reaches us without delay.

If you prefer, you can also donate securely online or contact us directly at 416.657.0379 x 232 for more options.

Your contributions are vital to the work we do, and we want to make sure your generous donations arrive safely and on time.

Learning Resources:

The Winter Solstice is a time to honor the earth, slow down, and spend meaningful moments with loved ones.

Sharing traditional dishes during the Winter Solstice is a deeply important ritual, as it allows us to celebrate both the earth’s abundance and the relationships that sustain us. Through these shared meals, communities nourish not only their bodies but also their spirits, embracing the solstice as a moment of inner peace and reflection.

To honor this tradition, we’ve shared some Indigenous recipes that are cherished classics to enjoy and savor during the Winter Solstice. Click the link below and read more.
