Make the Season Bright: Join Us for Giving Tuesday

As the holidays approach, we’re reminded of the importance of generosity, community, and the joy of giving. This Giving Tuesday, December 3th, we invite you to join us in bringing warmth and hope to Indigenous families and individuals through our Holiday Hampers initiative.

In Indigenous cultures, food is more than nourishment—it’s a way to connect, honour traditions, and bring people together. Sharing food strengthens bonds within families and communities, fostering a sense of belonging and mutual care. During the holidays, the act of coming together over a meal carries even greater significance, symbolizing unity, gratitude, and the passing down of traditions from one generation to the next.

But for many, the holiday season can be a difficult time—especially for those facing financial challenges or feeling the weight of isolation. Our Holiday Hampers offer more than just food, gifts, and grocery cards—they provide a way to honour these cultural values and bring comfort, connection, and a sense of belonging to those in need.

Every hamper is a gesture of care, lovingly prepared to bring joy to families, elders, and single community members. It’s a reminder that they are not alone, that their community sees them and values them.

Your support can make a real difference. A single donation helps us fill these hampers with nourishing food, thoughtful gifts, and the spirit of the season. Together, we can brighten the holidays for the urban Indigenous community, one hamper at a time.

This Giving Tuesday, let’s stand together in kindness and compassion. Share the gift of hope, honour the power of gathering, and help us make the season brighter for those who need it most.

Health Centre Updates:

As you stroll down Cherry Street near Mill Street, you might spot a striking white structure that stands out against the skyline. This is In Equilibrium, a powerful permanent public art installation by Ludovic Boney, designed as part of Waterfront Toronto’s public art master plan for the West Don Lands.

Rising nearly 28 feet, In Equilibrium is more than just a striking work of art—it’s a powerful symbol, sitting prominently on the exterior of the Anishnawbe Health Centre. This installation serves as both a visual gateway and an enduring tribute to the significance of Indigenous culture and presence in the city. It transforms the surrounding area into a distinctive landmark, anchoring the health centre as a central point of connection for the Indigenous community.

Learning Resources: Remembering Murray Sinclair

The passing of esteemed leader Murray Sinclair this past month is a huge loss for Canada and Indigenous communities around the country. An esteemed Anishinaabe leader, former Senator, and a tireless advocate for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada, Murray Sinclair created an impactful legacy that changed this country for the better.

As Chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Justice Sinclair courageously led the nation in confronting the painful legacy of Residential Schools. His leadership resulted in the 94 Calls to Action, which have profoundly shaped the mission, vision, and values of our foundation.

You can read more about the 94 Calls to Action here

Murray Sinclair’s legacy will endure in Indigenous communities across Canada. He was a powerful advocate and champion for the need of culturally grounded and accessible health care for Indigenous people. His vision reminds us of our responsibility to uphold his work by advancing health equity, fostering healing, and supporting Indigenous-led services in our communities.

With his passing we join you in becoming more committed than ever to continue his work and to honour the Calls to Action with renewed purpose and dedication.
